Lodge Your Tax Returns Or Else - Tax Office Warns!

1. In October 2009, the Tax Office sent correspondence to various taxpayers advising them that their overdue returns had to be lodged by December 4, 2009.
 
2. The Tax Office warned that taxpayers who failed to lodge their overdue income tax returns by that date would receive a default assessment based on the information available to the Tax Office.
 
3. Taxpayers who have been issued with a default assessment may incur penalties for failure to lodge on time, as well as shortfall penalties.
 
4. A summary of the taxpayer's estimated taxable income on which any default assessment will be based was included in the Tax Office warning letters.
