Gaining access to your superannuation benefits is generally based on three key criteria:
a. Your age;
b. Whether or not you are gainfully employed; and
c. The preservation status of your benefits.

Generally, individuals are prohibited from accessing their preserved benefits until they reach their preservation age. Your preservation age is determined by your date of birth.

If you have not attained preservation age, there are limited circumstances under which you can access your preserved superannuation benefits. These include:-

Once preservation age is reached, you may access your super before you retire but only in the form of a "Non-Commutable" income stream, not a lump sum.
