A month in the life of a Kreston Regional Secretary

July is proving to be an exceptionally busy period for Edmond Chan, Kreston's Regional Secretary for Asia Pacific.

Edmond attended a meeting of the Kreston China Managing Partners in Guangzhou held over 25-27 June. This was the first meeting for Mr Min, Managing Partner of the new member, Shaanxi San Qin in Xian (4th from the left) who was welcomed to the group. Together the firms are ranked 9th largest international network in China (IAB survey March 2010) with a total staff resource of 1,750. The group includes 5 firms ranked within the China top 100 firm. The Kreston China meeting was joined by Jim Maldaner from the Calgary office of DNTW, one of Kreston's member firms in Canada, who presented to the group on the opportunities for companies to list on the Canadian Stock Exchange.

Edmond returns to China for 5-7 July to join Sue Almond, Quality and Professional Standards Director on her first visit to the offices of our member firms in Shanghai and Hangzhou - Shanghai Hu Gang Jin Mao and Zhonghui CPAs.

Returning first to Hong Kong for less than one day, Edmond will then travel to attend the Kreston Asia Pacific Conference to be held in Tokyo over 8-11 July. The Conference is jointly hosted by member firms Hongo Tsuji and Okamoto & Co.

Edmond will then accompany Executive Director, Jon Lisby on his recruitment visit to China over the period 18 - 25 July. A series of visits is being planned to firms identified in Beijing and Tianjin then travelling to visit three further prospective firms, each holding the coveted license to undertake to audit of listed companies, one in Wuhan in Hubei Province, the others in Jiangsu Province in the cities of Nanjing and Wuxi.

During his visit, Jon has been invited to speak to the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants at a seminar forming part of a distance learning programme. The seminar topic will cover "Strategies for the development and marketing of non-audit services" and it is anticipated that the 90 minute session will be beamed live to over 4,000 CPA's attending at regional centres. To mark the occasion, Edmond and Jon have been invited to lunch with Dr. Chen Yugui, The Secretary-General of the CICPA.

Jon Lisby says "Edmond's contribution to the development of Kreston in the Asia Pacific Region is remarkable. In July 2010 alone, Edmond plans to commit at least 18 full days to the Regions affairs. In China, Edmond's sustained efforts, including his own firms support of the Chinese student intern project, have significantly raised the profile of Kreston within the CICPA and we trust these initiatives will support our efforts for significant further expansion".
